Get to your Jewel for the 1.99/lb pork tenderloin before I do.
Limit 4. I had to put about 10 back after I read the limit. The price is decent, but they are vaccuum packed. Saves me the step. Also they are perfect size for a family dinner to take one or two out of the freezer. I could probably trust wife 1.0 to make a full dinner including side dishes (kraft blue box) with these.

I'm going to buy at least 8 more today. If I start thinking about having them for the grill next summer...I might get quite a few more.

Hi- The pork tenderloin is on sale only through Saturday. Some stores will let you buy more than 4 and some stores won't. When they had the organic beef on sale a few months ago, a lot of stores dropped the limit, and there were people buying 20 packages at a time. I was at Jewel last night, but I don't eat a lot of pork, and so I did not even look at it. They also had 3 pound packages of ground turkey on sale last night for $7.99 that I might have been interested in, but they were out of it. My freezer is pretty full right now anyway. I bought some Lean Cuisine dinners that are also on the four day sale, and then I bought a few Eat frozen dinners that were on clearance for $1.48. I had one of those last night, and I am not buying any more.

At the Chicago Avenue Jewel, they also had a bunch of Christmas clearance in the seasonal isle on the Osco side, including 12 count K pods of Papa Nicholas holiday coffee for $1.99. They also had some holiday candy and some canned frosting 75% off.

When I bought the organic baby carrots last night, I had to go through a bunch to find any that weren't ready to expire. That Jewel is not my favorite one. I only go there because it is the closest one. Most of the employees do not enjoy working there, and when I got there last night there was somebody looking at the grapefruit they had. The sign said they were something else, and so he had no idea how much they were. I pointed out that they had 8 pound bags of grapefruit on sale. He told me he knew, but he had no idea where they were. We both looked around, and we could not find them, and there was nobody working in produce at 8:00 pm to ask. At least they had plenty of the 10 pound bags of potatoes for $.99. They were supposed to have navel oranges on sale for $.49 a pound too, but I did not see any.

Holy balls, that's the funniest thing I've read in a while, thanks. I was eyeballing those things as well. I almost convinced myself that $1.48 is worth a try even if I expected them to be garbage, but then I remembered how many times I've thrown away things like that because new levels of "edible" are always being discovered by science. $1.48 of "edible" is no longer on my radar (unless someone else tries it first!)

    HI,

I bought so much meat during the holidays, I have to work down the inventory. It is a little embarassing: 18 pound rib roast, 11 chickens bought at 48 cents a pound, an 18 pound turkey purchased for 49 cents a pound, a 22 pound turkey purchased for 39 cents a pound, eight pound pork shoulder for 99 cents a pound. Before Thanksgiving, this freezer had been off for months. Now it will be on until at least mid summer. :D

It had been 10 days since I was last in a grocery store. Yesterday I caved to buy eggs for 99 cents, milk for $1.88, potatoes for 99 cents and some bananas.

It felt good to be back in the game.

    Regards,

Hi- Jewel has another freebie again tomorrow only. It is Welch's Fruit Rolls. THere are three different flavors to choose from. The secret word is "Unroll the fun"

I needed them like a hole in my head, because I have so many veggies in my fridge and freezer right now, but I broke down last night, and bought the 10 pound bag of potatoes. I was out of potatoes, but I did not need 10 pounds worth. I also bought a loaf of brownberry bread because it was $1.88, and I have a coupon I can post redeem, and I bought some Lean Cuisine only because it was also $1.88 and a gallon of milk and a few other things. I spent a grand total of $25. I would have bought one of the 8 pound bags of grapefruit they have right now for $1.99, but it interacts with my lipitor, and a little grapefruit is okay, but not 8 pounds worth. While I was in Jewel last night another customer was looking at the loose grapefruit which did not have a price for it, and the sign said they were avocados anyway, and I mentioned that the bags were on sale, and he said he knew, but he had no idea where they were. We both looked at 8:00 last night and we could not find them, and there was nobody working in produce to ask. They had plenty of bags of potatoes though.

For those that can't make it to Jewel by Saturday for the pork tenderloin sale, I got an email from Mariano's, and they currently have natural pork tenderloin on sale for $2.99 a pound. I am not sure how long it is going to be on sale for. I have no idea what they mean by natural. That is kind of a vague term. Hope this helps, Nancy

Hi- While I was in the Wilmette Jewel on Green Bay Saturday evening I noticed that some of the packages of Open Nature air chilled chicken had a $5 off a package of Open Nature chicken. I ended up getting one package of it, which ended up being $4 for a 1.5 pound package of b/s chicken breast after the coupon was deducted. I was in the store again last night, and there were some packages of the b/s chicken breast with the $5 coupon. The coupons expire on 1/15, and the coupons are being labeled as an employee coupon, but the coupon worked for me. There is supposed to be a limit of one coupon per person. I assume the coupon can be found on Open Nature chicken in other Jewel stores too. Hope this helps, Nancy

Hi- Jewel has another word of the day freebie tomorrow. Jenny Lee's Swirl Bread classic cinnamon. The secret word is toast. It is located in the bakery department. For those of you that might be interested Jewel has their pub burgers on sale today only for $.99. I think they average a half a pound. They also have WW pasta on sale 2/$1 right now. I just bought ten boxes of it last night. You should also check and see if your store has the $5 coupons for the Open Nature air chilled chicken. I just got another package of b/s chicken breast last night, and I figured out it cost me $2.20 a pound with the coupon. There is a limit of one coupon per visit.

    Hi,

After looking through all the bread, I ended up at the manager's desk to get the Lee's cinnamon swirl bread.

The cashier's station had information on the Lee's deal and secret word. I was the first person the cashier encountered who got the free bread.

    It's pretty good stuff, too.

Thank you for highlighting these opportunities.

Jewel sometimes throws a curve ball and changes the products offered. I'm told that the Panera offer has been rescheduled to next month.
I regret the error and hope I didn't cause anyone an unnecessary shopping trip to Jewel.

Jewel has started its Monopoly promotion again. A couple of days ago I was behind a woman at the checkout who was chatting with the two young men doing the checking and bagging. Her total was more than $100, I guess, because he told her she'd earned 10 Monopoly cards. He picked up a thick stack of 40 or so cards, counted out 10, laid them down on the belt on top of her receipt, and handed her the rest of the stack. Then, still chatting, he picked up the receipt and her 10 cards and handed them to her. Whether she was any more aware than he was that he'd just given her 40 cards, I don't know. When she left, I said to him, do you realize you just handed her your entire handful of about 40 Monopoly cards? Eh, he said, opening a drawer to show me a boxful. I've got more. Here. You earned 4.

Hi- So far I have gotten 17 tickets. I have win a bagel and a bottle of aspirin. Last year I think I won 4 bagels, and then I figured out they have 320 calories each. Last year almost every time I had a High School boy checking me out, I would get a whole handful of tickets, as in 25 or more. When I was at the Kosher Jewel on Howard, I had a free ticket to turn in, and the customer service person gave me 25 tickets. I then opened them up and found a few more free tickets, and took them up to customer service, and she handed me another 25. I then did my grocery shopping, where I think I got 10 tickets. I then opened them up along with the 25, and I won a few more free tickets. By the time I walked out of the store, I think I had 120 tickets. It was about three days before the game was ending, and so they were handing them out like crazy. A few days later I was at the Evanston Chicago Avenue store, and the cashier did not give me my Monopoly tickets, and I mentioned it to her. She got angry at me, and told me the game was almost over. She reached in her drawer, and just threw some tickets at me. I was still short a few tickets, and so I had to go to customer service to get the rest of my tickets, and I told them how rude she was.

Last year you could trade your Fandango tokens for Amazon GC, but this year they did away with the Amazon GC. You can get Penny's or Kohl's this year and a few other ones. You can also get movie tickets with them. You have to get 30 Fandango codes this year before you can cash in for a $5 GC. So far I only have 5 Fandango codes. I don't know why I am addicted to the game. Hope this helps, Nancy

The prizes don't seem as good as last year. I'm hearing a lot of aspirin, tomato sauce, gravy packets, bagels and donuts so far. Last year I recall I won 2 lbs of shredded cheese, and a quart of Half & Half among others.
