Well, cupcakes and cookies get stale so quickly. Chocolate lasts a while. ;)

I didn't try a damn bit of mushroom, and I even followed the instructions.

A chocolate bar...with instructions? And to think I've been winging it all this time.

That link didn't work (anymore). Try this (without instructions though)

All of their candy bars come with instructions - mostly they sound like one of those "how to please your lady" kind of things (sniff this, lick that, caress the other, linger over the, notice the other)

I'm generally a fan of the Wedel chocolate bars. They have a new, "Edycja Limitowana" series of "Maxi Smak" bars, including flavors such as mango-blood orange. I saw the watermelon flavor on sale at the A&G and decided to give it a try.

Bleagh! The kid and I both thought it was nasty-- not too surprising in retrospect. Luckily I had a stash of the milk chocolate-hazelnut around to take the taste out of my mouth. I would still try the mango-orang flavor though. Watermelon + chocolate = Yuck!

These are (sadly) no longer available, but Marabou had a stroke of genius in combining Bugles and chocolate. Had it in Europe some years back:

My brother turned me on to the Ritter Sport Dark Chocolate with Hazelnuts. These little bars are packed with delicious whole hazelnuts. Not cheap, but oh so good.

There's a version with milk chocolate, if you insist.

The trouble with "normal" best chocolate bars is, when I get a craving I think "I'll just have one little square"....but then I go back for "just one more"...and etc.

I have found that with 100% cacao I almost never go back for more, but it satisfies my craving. And I've never gone back a third time.

I was getting bits from Morke's Chocolate factory, at something like $35 per pound, so out of cheapness I was usually getting the cheaper stuff and eating too much.

Just yesterday I found 4 oz baking bars of 100% at a regular grocery venue (Walmart) for $2, so that is my new favorite. Which is good because my new "eating guidelines" says chocolate is only allowed if at least 90% cacao.

World War II K-rations had unsweetened chocolate bars to discourage snacking in advance of need. By tasting awful, they were the chocolate of last reserve exactly by design.

I learned this from a military historian at the Chocolate symposium at the Smithsonian some years ago.
