My friend and I are going to the OSU - NU game this Saturday. We were planning on spending Friday night in Dayton.

We were looking at the 5th Street Brewpub or the Carillon Brewing Company for Friday night. We are both in to craft beers.

    Any comments.

My wife and I went to Dayton in the summer for a Dayton Dragons game and while we ate at the ballpark, we did go to Warped Wing Brewery and liked it a good bit. It has some food but it's mostly a tap room, pretty spare in terms of decorations but a nice space and fairly large.

I think some of this will depend on where you are staying. Carillon is a bit out of downtown so if you are staying downtown and looking to walk (which we were) it was kinda off the table.

A large group of us from Roadfood.com did a Cincinnati Chili Crawl a few years back that included an opening night dinner at the Pine Club in Dayton. It's more of an old school steakhouse that's been around since the late 40's. It's dimly lit and very cozy. Very good food at reasonable prices, as far as steak joints go.

Couldn't tell you what the craft beer situation is, as that is not a focal point for me.

    Have a great trip!

    Buddy

We made it to Dayton Friday night. We tried to get in to the Pine Club. But they didn't take reservations and they told us that there was a 45 minute wait. So we went to the Fifth Street Pub.

We both liked the beers we got, but the food got a mixed review. I had a turkey wrap that was fine. My friend picked something different. It was a bed of rice, carrots, and peppers covered in beef, then a spinach-artichoke dip, then covered in Parmesan. He found it bland, which he blamed on the dip.

Then we went to Warped Wing brewery. Wow a very interesting place. A fairly large crowd. There seemed to be a couple of groups having a Halloween party, strange costumes. We both liked the beers and the vibe. I had CreepShow and an Oatmeal Stout. I liked them both a lot. My buddy had a Saison, that he also would recommend. The menu was not very impressive, I did buy a jar of their mustard.

After the game on Saturday, we got back to Dayton about 8:45. We thought we would give Carillon Brewing a try. We used our GPS and couldn't find the place. We finally gave them a call and was told they close at 10. Since it was 9:25, we decided to go back to Warped Wing. Closing at 10 surprised us.

The person who answered the phone at Carillon commented that her GPS had trouble too.

Glad you like Warped Wing! I realized we did eat something there, some spent grain pretzel bites and they were fine but nothing to write home about.

Had dinner at Flyboys Deli this past Friday night.

A very good deli no doubt. Unfortunately I don't believe they cook off any of their meats in house. The corned beef & pastrami were decent enough but salty. This said, I did enjoy "The Hunter" which is 5oz of both corned beef & pastrami with coleslaw & Russian dressing. I omitted the cheddar cheese.

Mrs Willie really enjoyed her roast beef sandwich, said pretzel role was tops and beef was good taste/quality.

I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.
