Jimmy's Charhouse in Naperville (916 S. Rt. 59) closed about a month ago. All the signage has been removed and Open Table reports it as closed. It was in one of those "cursed" locations that no matter what, no restaurant can last a year. It was originally Boston Blackies, then City Island, then Jimmy B's and finally Jimmy's Charhouse. Looking at Yelp reviews, it won't be missed.

Just guessing, but maybe that Lincoln Square restaurant was forced to change the name due to legal rights of the longtime Skokie restaurant of the same name.

It's Andersonville/Bowmanville, but I doubt it since they had been around for a LONG time. The location burned down and they built across the street about a decade ago, but before then they had been there for awhile. I think it just changed hands, but I'm not sure. Hector may have died, and maybe Faby just sold it.

Au Bon Pain in Metra station (500 W. Madison) closed seemingly yesterday or maybe last weekend. Sad, since that was one of the better chains in the building.

I think it's been at least a few weeks now (I work in the building). I think the addition of Pret a Manger just down the hall did them in. Since Panera now owns ABP, will be interesting to see if they open a Panera in the same location.

I'd honestly prefer Panera ONLY because of their breakfast sandwiches. Anyway, thanks for the info. I don't always go down that hall since I work upstairs, so maybe I missed it.

We already talked about this upthread. It's the younger generation of the same family. Maybe they changed the name because when it was "Tipico" it sucked. (At least the 1 time I went there.) I recently went and had 3 different tacos, they were all good and the menu is more interesting.

Bozii opened last week on Lake St east of Wacker (next to Blackwood BBQ) - in the space once occupied by Pockets. They've been handing out mini samples all week, but so far the there doesn't seem to be much traction.

They have chicken noodle soup at Steingold's. I haven't tried it, so can't vouch for it. I think the Tuscan Hen sometimes has it, though they rotate their soups.

Steingold's would have been perfect! They're not coming up in Grubhub for me even though they say that's what they use. Maybe they're out of range. But I'll keep that in mind. Thanks!

It didn't burn down, the property was sold to developers; the ghastly condo building you see there today is the net result. And yes, Hector did die.

Romano's in Rosemont on Higgins has closed. I was in last week and the sign stated 5/20/18 was their last day. Indicated they are working on a new location. Felt pretty awful that I didn't ask Tom the owner for the reason. Just figured it was the new Moretti's down the street. Website indicates nothing about closing, but the phone just rings and rings.

When we bought our place, we were told there was a fire and then they tore down and built the condos. And it was developed by Hector's family. Then they sold the condos except their own - but eventually moved when they couldn't re-open their restaurant downstairs and the salon didn't take off. I lived there for 7 years, it wasn't ghastly. Thanks for the info on Hector.

I see from the website there'll also be a City BBQ opening in Vernon Hills in the fall. From the address (887 N. Milwaukee, Unit 400), it looks like this will be in the new Mellody Farms development on the northeast corner of Milwaukee Ave. and Route 60 that will be anchored by a Whole Foods. Lot of construction work going on there now.

ETA: According to this Vernon Hills village website, there will be an outpost of Kuma's Corner in the development too.

Yelp and Google (which are getting increasingly hard to game when the sample size is sufficiently large, in my observation) at least, and I'll throw in that the Berwyn location has some of the better fries around, interesting sauces, and smoke-permeated meats - ribs, pork, brisket are better than turkey and chicken - that at their best stack up with some of the suburbancue / adult contemporary 'cue the board likes. They are inconsistent and best enjoyed fresh from the smoker / carving table / onsite. Hush puppies are much enjoyed by mine and other kids, and coupons keep the pricepoints reasonable (the competition platter is easily enough food for 4). I much prefer City to Q BBQ, but the Oak Park location does a decent brunch in a nice room.

    Yelp and Google . . .

Ok, so not necessarily by anyone who knows BBQ well. Please forgive my default, knee-jerk skepticism. I don't intend to shoot the messengers but commercial BBQ is almost always disappointing, especially when cooked on mechanical smokers at chain entities. Even you, in your praise, lead with the fries. When the BBQ is truly great, no one even mentions the sides. Now, get off my lawn!! :P
