The menu is now online, they've got some things I'm very interested in trying, like pork belly tacos, baja tacos, and elotes.

Post #215 - April 24th, 2018, 5:28 pmThe new McDonald's at their HQ is opening tomorrow which will feature a rotation of international menu items that you can't get anywhere else in the US. Looks pretty trendy inside, has touchscreens too and table service.
Some of the international menu items at opening will be loaded bacon cheese fries from Australia, Angus burger from Canada, a spicy chicken sandwich from Hong Kong, a few salads from France, and a McFlurry Prestigio from Brazil. Also have a "Latin American Dessert Center" or something.
Should be interesting...definitely not your average McDonald's.

Had dinner there last night, it's the next generation of the family taking over. I thought what I had was a huge improvement over what I'd had there last summer.

They are or at least used to be run by the same family. The Skokie location is as close to identical as you can get to the old El Tipico that was caddy-corner from the current El Catran before it closed, got torn down, and replaced by that monstrosity of a condo building sitting there currently. They even have the same chairs the old Bowmanville location had.

They told me (above) that it is the same family, at least in Bowmanville. They added a very nice outside eating area.

While Thai Oscar did open on Western Avenue, it closed. Technically accurate but oblivious to the fact that the storefront now houses Pho's Spicier Thai Cuisine.While Lincoln Square grabs headlines as a German-American hub, over the last four decades the city’s Thai community has settled in on Western Avenue and opened several restaurants including Thai Oscar, Spoon Thai, Thai Room, Sticky Rice, and Rainbow Thai.

Post #231 - May 4th, 2018, 7:07 amPer their web page, Truco Taco at Randhurst has closed. The store itself has a "closed for remodeling" sign, but appears to be more permanent.
I'm sorry to see it go -- I was only in a handful of times, but the food was always tasty, well-presented and creative... although as time went on, they lost more and more of the creativity in an attempt to capture more market, adding hamburgers, and losing things like lamb chorizo.
There appears to be a market for upscale Mexican -- Mesa Urbana on Milwaukee always appears to be crowded -- but perhaps not at Randhurst next to the movie theater.What is patriotism, but the love of good things we ate in our childhood?

In what was the Perry's Deli and short lived Firefin Poke slot comes 65 Poke Sushi.
Not sure if it's a relation to the 65 Chinese group or where the sushi part comes in - other than they have the ahi and salmon poke bowls. Also added are chicken, tofu and grilled shrimp as options. You can also have your bowl in a burrito!

Text indicates that Green Leaf Thai Cuisine will be in the Opart space, which is at 4658 N. Western. I am not sure whether 4658 N Lincoln is the parking lot where the Lincoln Square farmers' markets are, the building just south of there which houses a health club, or some CTA property. I hope that the rest of Eater's details are more accurate than the address.

Larrabee) has "Now Open" and "Grand Opening" banners up in front. The building has been undergoing renovations for at least three years. For some reason the main restaurant signage faces west towards the soon to be demolished Father and Son Plaza so you can't really see it from North or Larrabee. Can't find any web presence but the sign says "Bowl Wraps Sandwiches".
Edit: Stopped by this place for lunch, actual name is Village Garden Restaurant and the menu is mostly middle eastern with a few burgers and sandwiches.Cookingblahg.blogspot.com

IF YOU ARE NOT 100% CERTAIN ABOUT A CLOSING, PLEASE DO NOT POST ABOUT IT HERE (or anywhere else, for that matter).
Doing so can cause irreparable harm to the entity in question and especially since we are all fans of the industry, we know that no one here wants that.
Please take extra caution. As we've posted over and over again, it's far more important to be accurate than early in reporting such information here.
