The only place around Chicago that I know of that had a real country pan fried steak (light crust) as opposed to the chicken (deep) fried steak (thick fried chicken-like crust) that is more typical in Texas and Oklahoma, plus Stanley's had a cream gravy without sausage (also more authentic). A solid rendition that will be missed by me.Coogles wrote:Apparently Stanley's Kitchen and Tap at 1970 N. Lincoln will be closing their doors April 1st...

I've been a regular there for years, definitely a loss for the neighborhood.

I actually prefer chicken fried to the Stanley's style, but it was still great. Nice to see they are trying to re-open.stevez wrote:Ram4 wrote:The only place around Chicago that I know of that had a real country pan fried steak (light crust) as opposed to the chicken (deep) fried steak (thick fried chicken-like crust) that is more typical in Texas and Oklahoma, plus Stanley's had a cream gravy without sausage (also more authentic). Wishbone on Washington (don't know about the Lincoln Ave. location) serves that type of Chicken (country) fried steak, when they have it as a special. I think it used to be Wednesdays, but I moved my office away from there over 10 years ago, so things might have changed. Call ahead for CFS special day.

Regretfully, after almost a year of being a part of the community, The Simple Greek located at 5415 Touhy Ave in Skokie has permanently closed its doors. Thank you for your support over the past year!

Oh too bad, I heard good things about this place.
Based on the lack of a crowd when I visited, I'm not shocked. Sad of course since I saw some potential.

My wife and I ate there sometime last year. The place was nearly empty. The owner stopped by to chat, and we had a pleasant conversation about (what else) barbecue. The food was good, but with Smoque relatively close by, they might not have gotten enough support from the neighborhood.
