I never really cared for their pizza, oh well. I bet Lincolnshire would love to tear down those tired old strip malls on Milwaukee and 22 one of which La Rosa was in and have new structures put up. Maybe this was planned by the village?

Despite the term 'esteemed' being thrown around quite liberally these days, a stone's throw south from the now-defunct LaRosa is Bonta Pizzeria, real Napolitan-style, plus fabulous soups, salads and sandwiches. Worthy of some LTH love, maybe a GNR one day. LTH North Lunch Group met there once last year and enjoyed it thoroughly.

The Sizzling Pot King serving what looks like pretty authentic Chinese (mostly Sichuan) food in West Loop near the new H-Mart is open now, at least soft open. Their speciality is dry pot (aka Ma La Xiang Guo) and have a few locations in the Bay Area, San Diego, and Seattle. Their first outside the West Coast.

The only place around Chicago that I know of that had a real country pan fried steak (light crust) as opposed to the chicken (deep) fried steak (thick fried chicken-like crust) that is more typical in Texas and Oklahoma, plus Stanley's had a cream gravy without sausage (also more authentic). A solid rendition that will be missed by me.

Wishbone on Washington (don't know about the Lincoln Ave. location) serves that type of Chicken (country) fried steak, when they have it as a special. I think it used to be Wednesdays, but I moved my office away from there over 10 years ago, so things might have changed. Call ahead for CFS special day.

I actually prefer chicken fried to the Stanley's style, but it was still great. Nice to see they are trying to re-open.

My wife and I ate there sometime last year. The place was nearly empty. The owner stopped by to chat, and we had a pleasant conversation about (what else) barbecue. The food was good, but with Smoque relatively close by, they might not have gotten enough support from the neighborhood.

It was owned by a friend of a friend -- a very nice, hard-working person -- so I want to be as diplomatic as possible. I ate there very early on and felt the bbq all needed quite a bit of work. Given that, and the relatively inconvenient location (for me), I couldn't bring myself to return. And the meal I had there was shared with 3 other LTHers, none of whom ever posted about it, either.

No, it certainly didn't compare favorably with Smoque. After eating their brisket, I was surprised that to learn that some of the constituents had actually been to Texas and eaten bbq there, because his wasn't even close (no meaningful bbq place in TX serves brisket that looks like what's pictured in this post). And that made it all the more disappointing, especially when taking its name into consideration . . . an implicit promise that was not kept.

Zaleski and Horvath / Z&H in Hyde Park, which had been a longtime neighborhood mainstay on 47th (closed for some time) and 57th and featured on Check, Please! has been sold to TrueNorth. Z&H had been limping along with ingredient and barista outages and arbitrary early closures for some time. Oddly (in my read), TrueNorth is continuing some Z&H menu items for catering:

I wonder if the people who owned Continental Cafe on Elston near Waveland also owned Little Bucharest and eventually transferred the name to their Irving Park restaurant, or if the people who owned Little Bucharest bought out Taste of Romania and set up shop in there.
