New restaurants get a lot of attention on here, and then the thread doesn't get updated for a while, probably for varying reasons. Sometimes because people have stopped going there, others probably because they go there all the time and have said everything they have to say about a given spot.

I don't eat out as often as I'd like, and when I do, it's mainly breakfast. Lately I've been going to Cafe Selmarie or Replay in Andersonville. Work week lunches mainly Tuscan Hen or Brownstone. I've been to Spacca Napoli a few times in the last couple of months.

So I'm curious - where do you go regularly?

For us, probably most frequent is Smylie Bros. - not just for the beer (excellent) but for the BBQ and wood-fired pizza. It's still a bit surprising to me that these brothers - none of whom had experience running a restaurant before - turned a former unemployment office (and prior to that, a natural foods grocery, and a filling station before that) into a busy, well-functioning brewpub.

About a block away, we also frequent Five & Dime, for drinks outdoors and the rooftop views. The menu includes selections from the sister restaurants downstairs, Taco Diablo and Lulu's Dim Sum and Then Some, with a fair amount of the food coming from the rooftop garden/farm in back.

The Bagel, Baker Miller, Budacki's, Calo, Golden Nugget, House of Wah Sun, Jimmy's Pizza Cafe (although lately we've been doing Jet's because they have good deals), Mr. Submarine, New York Bagel & Bialy, Potbelly, Quick Bite, Rainbow (or Spoon on Mondays when Rainbow is closed), Spoken.

Most of these places we get for delivery or take out. The Bagel and Golden Nugget are our standbys for having dinner out with a baby and a toddler. Baker Miller and Spoken are my "treat yoself!" places for breakfast or lunch.

(A Bite of Szechuan used to be on the list, but I've been hesitant to return since the menu/chef change.)

Nothing like moving to the burbs and having a kid to throw a wrench in your rotation... goodbye dinners out. Here's where things stand in 2017, the top five places I eat on about a monthly basis:

    1. John's Buffet (in lovely downtown Winfield, the oldest bar in DuPage. Great beer list, mostly nosh of their good wings and throw back nachos, skip the rest)
    2. Katy's Dumpling House (Westmont)
    3. Minghin (Naperville, usually dim sum)
    4. Popeye's (late night Metra snack)
    5. Pub Royale (after work to see my buddy + best burger)

    Felicia's Deli (Elk Grove viewtopic.php?f=14&t=42397 )
    Cumberland Bakery (Des Plaines)
I did absolutely nothing and it was everything I thought it could be.

And I used to live 2 blocks from Whistler and don't believe I ever stopped in more that 6 or 8 times in 10 years. Always worth going out of my way to Edgebrook Diner (now and back when it was first worth visiting) or Alexander's or anything in Uptown/Andersonville.

Happy to see a couple of other folks name The Bagel, since that's one of ours, too.

Other than that, as far as being a "regular" someplace, the only place I can think of is Kamehachi on Wells. Not that it's wonderful, but in the void created by the closing of our beloved Itto Sushi, it's good enough, is in the neighborhood, and has the variety we require. (I eat sushi, my better half requires cooked.)

    Oh, and Pat's Pizza.

Greek Islands for roditis, atmosphere and pastichio
Cafe Iberico for cheap fun food and sangria
Frontera Grill @ the bar for really expensive margaritas once in a while and a few apps
Artopolis - artopita! and dessert plus wine and coffee
    Marie's (pizza, of course)
Fork - cheese plate, other small plates, good wines
    Bistro Campagne - old favorite
    Home Run Inn
    Bin 36

I don't really do this directly but I do keep track of all my expenses (by category), so the information is at the ready by default. It's as simple as running a report. Data . .
