Does anybody have any information about this place?
We really liked it since it opened. It is high quality thin crust pizza, with some great salads.
However, it has been closed for about two weeks, with paper in the windows.
Voice mail to the place states it will re-open, but it also seems like the "Robert's" sign has been removed from the windows.
I would hate to see this place close.

That would be a shame, since it was pretty good. That location may be snake-bit for restaurants if that's true...

Yes, previously it was Flour and Stone.

We thought that place closed due to an overall very average product.

Average pizza doesn't do it in a neighborhood where classic Chicago pizza is no more than about 15 minute away.

Robert's was (hopefully "is") very good though. Many nights, we deliberately chose their stuff over the more well known places. It wasn't simply our choice for convenience. We like(d) their pizza.

Serious owner dispute, w/ lawsuit purportedly filed today. Garvey, the namesake, is the plaintiff and said he hopes to reopen (or recover damages for his lost optimism). The partner/Defendant was an owner of the preceding pizza place in the space, Flour & Stone.

    Thanks for that update.
There are very good reasons that Robert's was successful and Flour and Stone was not.
It is shame that F&S is still haunting that location.

That's a shame. I hope this is either resolved or Roberts opens up somewhere else soon. It had become my favorite thin crust pizza shop in the city.

I confess to being a beneficiary of both. Tempers are bound to flare up when you're chasing LTH accolades!
When you're done writing briefs over partnership disputes, pizza places are almost all that's left open.

Same here. I've got a few pending right now, with partners fighting over their share of businesses. Luckily, my clients have kept the businesses open.

A new development in the drama surrounding Robert's Pizza Company (355 E. Ohio St.), which was abruptly closed by the leaseholders of the property, resulting in a lawsuit filed by Robert Garvey, suggests the critically acclaimed pizzeria will not return to the space. A sign in a front window of the shuttered restaurant announces "now hiring for all positions" for "a new concept by Hats Off Hospitality."

I came across the website for the replacement (not explicitly credited to Hats Off Hospitality), which is in a pre-opening hiring phase.

The menu looks decent. Appetizers seem overpriced, but salads and pizzas do not.

The new place is actually in a soft opening. I've seen neighbors carrying pizza boxes from there. I will have to check it out in the next few days and report back.

If anybody knows about the ownership, it would be interesting. I would like to hear if the people who were partners with Robert are part of the new team. Given how the neighborhood felt about Robert, going to a place that pushed him out might be a deal breaker.

It could also be completely separate of course, but it would be good to know.

Thanks for the firsthand knowledge of soft-open. I hadn't seen this Eater post http://chicago.eater.com/2017/8/16/16156768/urban-crosta-streeterville-menu-pizza til just now. When I searched Hats Off Hospitality, their site branded themselves as consultants. The Eater piece clarifies that this is the HOH principal's first foray into owner/operation. There appears to be no link to Flour & Stone ownership whatsoever.

That'd take some type of brazen maneuvering to be defending yourself in court, while taking control of the space and putting it to use for yourself. Ever dollar made could conceivably be going to Garvey in the future judgment.

So now it looks like they are on to the fourth option in that space.

The "Urban Crosta" signs are down, the website is down, and new signs say something like "Streeterville Pizza and Pub" (I will walk by later to confirm the name).

I will find out if it is just a name change or whether it is a new place.

It’s the season for comebacks for Chicago’s restaurant industry as Robert’s Pizza and Dough Co. is set to return on Friday inside a new location two years after its abrupt shutter. Founder Robert Garvey is back inside a large space serving thin-crust pies using a dough recipe he spent two decades tinkering. The spot is off the Chicago River at 465 N. McClurg Court.

Went over the weekend. Pizza was good. Very good crust, toppings needed more oomph. Can't imagine heading back. Too many places that have better pizza, are more conveniently located, and offer free tap water in lieu of $5 bottles. A couple pics:

Went recently as well... agree it's good, but not great. You're definitely paying for the location.

The table next to us was super annoyed with the water policy... and I probably would have been too, if it was explained to me when the water was offered immediately after we were seated.

My husband and I had dinner at Robert’s last night (nice Duck Prosciutto pizza and an apple and hazelnut salad) and I’m happy to report that tap water was poured for us when we sat down.
