Five and Dime is the brand new rooftop restaurant, bar and games place on top of Taco Diablo and Lulu's on Davis St in Evanston. Neither Lulu's or Taco Diablo is open yet but I imagine they will be soon. Five and Dime has been open a week.

It's a beautiful space with indoor and outdoor seating at tables, barstools, picnic tables, couches and lounge chairs. It's huge. There is a ping pong room with giant jenga and foosball, an outdoor bags area and three vintage pinball machines in their own super cool lounge room. Its like of like the patio at Parsons in Logan Square meets the Chicago Athletic Association Game Room and the food/drink seems to be at those levels too.

Had the cheeseburger which was two griddled patties with homemade pickles and grilled onions. Outstanding if a tad much at $14. Beer selection small but interesting with bottles of very rare Hickster from Scorched Earth Brewing in Algonquin and on tap from Sketchbook in Evanston. Interesting cocktail and wine lists .

This place absolutely rocks, there is nothing quite like it in Evanston. Looking forward to trying more of the menu which features one or two dishes from Lulu's (won ton salad) and Taco Diablo (fish tacos) as well as bar snacks and pub style food.

Ha ha my buddy is super into pinball and he was wowed. Sorry I cant remember them all but the one we played featured the rock band Kiss and it was quite loud and flashy. He pronounced it "tight" and "played like new".

I swung by last night to check the space out. As previously mentioned, the space is gorgeous and has a lot of potential, even in the colder months. I didn't try any food yet, as service was still working the kinks out. Getting a drink order in and receiving said drink took a bit of time, but nothing I'll hold against them. One thing I noticed: I had no idea until I was leaving that there was an elevator. Maybe a larger sign to point that out would be helpful. Overall, really looking forward to this space taking off. I got a peek at the in-progress Taco Diablo space, which also looks fantastic.

Poor, poor pitiful old me. From my point of view, if it's not electomechanical, it's not vintage.

The Evanston Lunch Group™ got together for lunch at Five & Dime today and it was wonderful, with excellent food and a lovely rooftop setting. I posted photos in the topic for our lunch; click here.

I'm glad to hear the menu's expanded a bit. We tried to eat there in May and they told us they had staffing shortages so had to pare back the menu significantly.
