    Bonny’s
A mystery-laden press release from Scofflaw (@scofflaw, 3201 W. Armitage Ave.) revealed that the team behind Chicago’s No. 1 bar is working to fill “the Bonny’s-sized hole in your heart at 2417 N. Milwaukee.” As you might recall, Bonny’s was a neighborhood favorite for late night drinks and a sweaty, crowded dance floor. The press release mentions both drinks and food.

    Parts & Labor
Boiler Room (@boilerroomchi, 2210 N. California Ave.) owner Russ Grant is opening Parts & Labor, a burger concept on the corner of Sawyer and Milwaukee. Grant told the Eater that the burger would be a thin, griddled patty that is “the antithesis of Kuma’s.”

    Prindiville
Eater reports that the second new project from Boiler Room’s Grant will be a speakeasy-style bar (apparently “speakeasy” now equates to “no sign”) at 2354 N. Milwaukee Ave.

    Madison Public House
The Innjoy team is working on a project at 2200 N. Milwaukee Ave., former home of Daddy Cool’s. The public house will feature food, drink and a vibe similar to Innjoy’s.

    TBD Project from Violet Hour
Eater Chicago reported rumors that the team behind Violet Hour is working on a craft cocktail spot in the former Las Islas Marinas space at 2047 N. Milwaukee Ave.

    California Point
Land and Sea Dept. are said to be working on a project at 2101 N. California Ave., the former Ronny’s space. According to sources, the fare will be German.

    State Fair
The owner of Azucar (2647 N. Kedzie Ave.) is said to be working on State Fair, which will take over the former Rewster’s space on Diversey near Kedzie.

    Radler & D.A.S.
Expected to open in later summer, Radler (@dasradler, 2375 N. Milwaukee Ave.) is a large German beer hall from Adam Hebert and Nathan Sears, formally of Vie. There also will be a smaller upscale restaurant within the beer hall dubbed D.A.S., where Sears will host a limited number of seatings per week for a single chef’s table.

    The Harding Tavern
Coming this summer to Milwaukee & Spaulding from the owner of Cafe Con Leche & D’Noche (@cafeconlechechi, @cafednoche, 2710 N. Milwaukee Ave.) is The Harding Tavern. According to their Facebook page, they’ll serve “shareable plates, cocktails and a hand-picked beer selection inspired by local culture and cuisine.” Hat tip to @justiner on this one!

    Cheers,
    Miss Ellen

Not sure if it was reported already, but at the old Coletti's on Elston and Central there is a 5 Rabbits cerveceria sign up saying Coming Soon. It also mentioned a patio. Also on Irving Park Road near the Pasadita Ecpress, I drove by a Cantina Pasadita. The signage looked similar so not sure if they are related.

Just FYI it's 5 Rabbit (no "s"). I didn't know they were looking to open a place up this way, but that sounds cool. Do you know if it's going to be a brewpub or just a production facility?

This Pasadita Cantina doesn't appear to be related to the Pasadita Group. If it is, then they're going in a whole new direction. This is shaping up to be a full-service bar and grill, though not just another Leader Bar/PitchFork -- I think I'd prefer another "real" Pasadita in the neighborhood, and I wasn't exactly leaping for joy when the first one showed up.

As I drove up Elston this evening I immediately noticed the 24/7 diner Two-Way Grill occupying the northwest corner of Elston and Pulaski was darkened. A hand-written sign on the door says "CLOSED -- Thank you for your patronage." Other signs of its hasty closing are all the furniture, equipment, signage, et cetera, are untouched. I don't know if it's going to trade hands and re-open or if they just decided to shut the lights off and lock the door and call it quits in the middle of a shift or what.

A shame, it was nice to have Two-Way in my pocket for the occasional late night burger or eggs over easy.

I'm very saddened to hear this news(albeit very late, since I too often forget to check LTH threads out, and am busy), since I had a good experience eating there about a year ago.

Don't know if someone already posted it(and my apologies if it was posted), but Pie Hole Pizza's 2nd location at Argyle/Clark had officially opened(as of a night or 2 ago when I passed by on the bus), in the space where Winston's Internet Cafe used to be. I wonder if their pizza is as good as Dimo's(lol, still too used to thinking of it as Ian's), or Big G's Pizza?

Coming soon: Elly's! I am pleased not only for myself and Mr. Pie as we will soon have a new place to go on our anniversary, but this should do well, assuming they get rid of the stank.

Didn't realize a new restaurant was finally gonna open there. The closing of Blue Angel was really unusual, since it always seemed to get good business, and my experiences there years ago were decent. Finnegan's also always looked dead, the few times I glanced towards there while passing by it on the bus. Good to see that location will be home to an operational restaurant again.

A few things killed Blue Angel. The death began in 2006 when they made the Dirty Dozen list:

Enactment of IL Smoke Free law in Jan, 2008, The Big Recession began in 2008, and then they stopped offering senior discounts on multi-course meals.

Ooooh, there is a sign up on the first floor of the building that now has the Suite 25 sports bar up on the 2nd floor, on the block across from Mega Mall with the Rocking Horse. It says, "Coming Soon, Zaytune Mediterranean Grill" which I immediately had to text my friend as she swears by this place in Bridgeport. Now, I don't see anything on their website about a new location, but the sign is up and has been for a few weeks.

Yep, that is the one I think. He told me it is next to Rocking Horse. He must be going into business with the guys at Zaytune in Bridgeport. My friend owns some other stuff in town and I haven't been to Zaytune, but hear it's good. My friend said they will also serve breakfast/brunch.

So I talked to someone at Coletti's and the 5 Rabbit logo on the "Coming Soon" banner is just part of a marketing promo, same as if it were a Guinness or Heineken logo. The "Coming Soon" part just refers to the upcoming outdoor dining space.

I didn't see this anywhere, but a new bar/restaurant/art gallery concept is coming to River North in a week or two called Gallery Bar at 738 N Clark Street. This makes me really, really excited:

"Gallery bar Chicago is a new concept opening in river north around mid June. Our gallery will focus on showcasing local street, pop, graffiti, installation and emerging artists. The exhibition space also has a craft beer cocktail bar and small restaurant with Caribbean fusion bites.

We will feature live art shows, fashion shows, tastings, djs, artists workshops and much more interactive entertainment."

The Clybourn Corridor may soon get a taste of Canada. Earls Restaurant Ltd. signed a 10-year lease last month for 8,200 square feet in the proposed New City development for its first Chicago location, said J. Michael Drew, principal at Chicago-based Structured Development LLC, one of the project's developers. Earls will offer a full-service restaurant and bar at New City, with 20 percent of the menu created by local kitchen staffers, the spokeswoman said.

    Hey There!

My name is joaquin soler, and my partner Dan Scesnewicz and I are opening smalls smoke shack in the Irving Park neighborhood. I just wanted to clarify, as much as we would love to open the door to everyone tomorrow, we are still awaiting the city inspection. We hope to be inspected by the end of the week, and should (key word here ;)) be firing up the smoker by some time next week!

In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to us with any questions at info@smallschicago.com.

We've been huge fans of this community for a long time, and can't wait to share our smoked treats with you!

Thanks for helping to spread the word, and thanks for your long time support of everything good and tasty in Chicago!

It looks like a new BBQ place is getting ready to open in the Loop. Just around the corner from UB Dogs, on Lake, between Frankin & Wacker. Backwood BBQ. They have flyers saying they are hiring & the interior looks like its been built out.

Also, Goodwins is moving from Franklin to 333 W Wacker.

Well it turns out the Cantina Pasadita, which is now open, is indeed part of the Pasadita empire and a clear effort to expand their horizons -- and a ham-handed effort at that. It's a nice space with a fireplace and wood floors and earth colors and all that, but the menu is still basic taqueria stuff. So imagine a place with all the pretension of Leader Bar/PitchFork but with items lifted almost straight from the standard Pasadita menu, and throw in rice and beans so they can charge an extra two bucks compared to the same items you can get right across the street. A conceptual Pasadita/LeaderFork merger seems depressingly fitting for that increasingly douchebaggy stretch of Irving Park. It's probably only a matter of time before Lizard's starts serving sliders and Southwest eggrolls.

Seeing how this Cantina Pasadita place is in the former location of that goofy Balkan-disco-eatery DeVine/Theater Cafe, this seems like an opportune time to report the closing of DeVine Restaurant/Lounge/Wine Bar, itself formerly Theater Cafe.

While we're at it, the taqueria across the street from Cantina Pasadita called Antojito opened and then closed before anyone here even noticed. Before that was a pan-Hispanic joint that served one of my favorite Cuban sammys around, even if it wasn't exactly built to tradition. It was owned by the people who owned the laundromat across the alley. You used to be able to order restaurant items from the laundromat window while minding your clothes and the restaurant would bring your order to you. But they sold both the 'mat and the restaurant, and I was sad to see the latter get turned into yet another generic taqueria.

And there's finally a new tenant in the long-vacant former Papi's Cafe space on Milwaukee just northwest of Pulaski. It's a taqueria called Tixteco. While it looks like another run-of-the-mill taqueria, they're at least trying to appeal to a certain conscientious demographic in the area with a sign promising a 15% discount to bicyclists. So maybe it'll be a little more community-oriented? We'll see.
