Plum Market, Michigan-based Whole Foods-type outfit, scheduled to open a 27,000-sq. ft. branch at 1233 N. Wells later this month. Will have an Intelligentsia cafe, Takashi-branded sushi bar, etc. in addition to groceries/wine/drugstore stuff.

Unfortunately, it seems to have closed. It has not been open during daylight hours for (I believe) two weeks.

I talked to the owner of Sideline last month-- he said that his lease was up and he was planning to close at the end of May, with an eye to opening elsewhere, possibly as a different venture. Too bad, Sideline was a real bright spot on that stretch of Belmont-- and would have been a great spot for lunch today. We're going to miss our post-camp Italian Ice stop too.

Nick's has opened in Wilmette. Family-friendly, at least in the early dinner hours when I was there, but open late. The food we had was quite good. A luscious potato-leek soup, meatball sandwich, fried risotto (much like arrancini) and a to-die-for warm double (or triple) chocolate brownie with Homer's mint chocolate chip ice cream. The chef moved over from Fuel, another Wilmette spot that pioneered sustainable and locally sourced ingredients. I think Nick's is trying to be somewhat locavore, and it showed in the soup and meatballs. Good wine and beer list. A very promising first visit.

It's not really a "new" opening but I haven't seen it mentioned here yet, so here goes.

Loyola's Asian Cuisine and Lounge opened back in March 2013. It's a very easy spot to miss because signage consists of a small-ish vinyl-type banner dangling from a storefront that otherwise looks neglected enough to say "nobody lives here." At any rate, it's a Filipino restaurant and lounge with late-night karaoke. People who dig both genuine Filipino cuisine and late-night Filipino karaoke lounges (apparently common in Filipino culture?) seem to give it their thumbs-up. Not being particularly versed in either, I'll defer to their judgment, and post contact details below so that LTHers can judge for themselves.

A very worthwhile and welcome opening in Lincoln Square, Dorothy’s Can-Do Café. From their Facebook page:

More than delicious food, Dorothy’s Can-Do Café nourishes the community. By supporting us you are supporting Gateway to Learning, a training center that helps individuals with intellectual disabilities reach their full potential and interact more fully with the community. All our food is made, packaged and sold by members of Gateway.

Sounds like they are offering cookies and other baked goods now, maybe coffee too, and perhaps more down the road.

Very interesting...both the connection between GNR Red Hot Ranch and the Wiener(s???) Circle AND the ambition to offer In & Out style burgers. And all of this excitement just walking distance from my house. Looking forward to it!

They are great guys. All three owners made a point of attending the GNR dinner at Manny's when RHR was awarded their plaque. I had a chance to visit with them and they were great Chicago characters. Although I already knew of the link between RHR and 35th St. Red Hots, I have to admit I was a little surprised when they told me they also owned Wiener's Circle.

    Folks,

We again pulled a string of posts that began with an erroneous report of a closing that hadn't actually happened. We cannot emphasize enough how critical it is to be absolutely certain about a closing before posting about it. It is completely irresponsible to post such information, as it can do immeasurable damage to a place.

In case there is any confusion, again, here are our guidelines on posting about closures . . .

    Important Reminder:

    LTH,

Please, do not post about a closing without making absolutely certain that your information is correct and accurate in every way.

Please, do not post rumors of closings without linking to a credible, 3rd-party source that substantiates your report. (i.e. "Eater.com reports . . ." is ok)

It's far more important to be accurate than early with your information. The best course of action may be to make a phone call to the establishment before posting anything. But whatever you do, make sure you are 100% correct before posting about a closing on this thread or any other in these forums.

    Thanks again,

While I agree that the posts needed to be pulled, as someone who lives less than a mile from Mythos but didn't know anything about it, I really hope that those who chimed in about how great the place is will start a thread--sounds like a neighborhood spot that deserves some attention!!

I haven't tried it out yet, probably will next week. In the previous location of Pepino's and more recently Franco's across from the Castaways Bowling Alley. I stopped by there last Friday because I finally saw people in there. They do have an aquarium smoker, probably from the place on Sibley and Indiana that recently closed (M&S) as a guess. Website is not up yet.
