I don't mind IHOP for breakfast BUT their dinner menu looks like some of the menus that I developed for nursing homes. Poor selection, poor variety and often poor execution.

I have a memory of having my first burger with swiss cheese at around age 6 at the IHOP on Skokie Blvd in Skokie (building is gone, I think it was where the condos at Madison are). They've always had burgers.

But Wendy's tweets take the (pan)cake:
Remember when you were like 7 and thought changing your name to Thunder BearSword would be super cool?
Like that, but our cheeseburgers are still better.

Not really afraid of the burgers from a place that decided pancakes were too hard.

That's almost the last time I visited them, 8 years ago on 4/22/10. I was in Philly and meeting a Twitter friend. He selected for ease for me to find en route to The Barnes Foundation.

au contraire. The Skokie Blve IHOPB is still there. Right across the street from the strip mall containing Lao Sze Sichuan.

Ok...who remembers what restaurant was at that location prior to IHOP?

Not 100% sure. It could be the Taco Bell, it could be the condos a little further south. Definitely north of the ex-Burger King that's currently Enterprise rent-a-car.

(later) Aha! It is the Taco Bell location, according to a post on Groceteria.

In shocking twist, IHOP acknowledges it faked IHOb name change to promote burgers

    IHOP has come clean.

The pancake chain has acknowledged that a name change announced last month was just a publicity stunt to promote its hamburger menu.

The company best known for its breakfasts already had burgers on the menu but had started using the IHOb name on social media, its website and for in-store promotions to draw attention to a new line of burgers made of Black Angus ground beef.

On Monday, it was back on social media, this time to promote a pancake deal tied to IHOP's 60th birthday.

On Twitter, the company said, "That's right, IHOP! We'd never turn our back on pancakes (except for that time we faked it to promote our new burgers)."

That will come to no surprise to some Internet sleuths, who combed through federal records, finding no proof of the restaurant officially changing its name.

The problem was no one had faith in their burger making abilities. Wendy's "dragged" them on this. It was funny. https://twitter.com/wendys/status/10061 ... 73?lang=en

So do we buy that this was their plan all along, to temporarily change the p to a b, or a trial balloon that failed, with the backup plan all along to say it was just a marketing strategy? I have no idea, but suspect they anticipated both options. Either way, well done, as referenced upthread, people are talking about IHOP!

The burgers were only intended to be around for the summer so I'm fairly certain this was just a marketing ploy that worked out beautifully. Maybe next year they'll claim that they're changing their name to IHOQ (International House of Quinoa).

I think they'll flip it to IHOD (dinner) to talk about how "they're not just for breakfast and post-bar crawl meals!"
