Giving this thread a bump as I am in the throes of My Brides Birthday Festival Week and there are not many things she loves more than a good hotdog.

Might have something to do with her German heritage? :)

Perusing the end of this thread it appears that Budacki's Drive In has some traction... decent enough dog with a few surprise items on the menu.

Just looking for something a little different, we have been to all the popular places.

LA's Dog Haus just opened a location in Lincoln Park. May well be sacrilege, but it is something different.

Also Hot Doug's descendant, Hot G Dogs in Uptown.

FWIW, Michael's in Highland Park changed owners 6-7 years ago. I haven't been going much, so I never noticed. Since they remodeled last year, I asked if they had new owners and that's when I was told. They also serve Eisenberg Hot Dogs now (so they said). I haven't tried one over there yet. Now that you order and go sit down, it's much more streamlined, but I kind of miss the charm and the chaos of the old days. It's too sterile in there.

I believe they were bought by Max's (of ghetto fries fame).

Dog day afternoon at Harlem and Armitage serves a pretty good Chicago Style hot dog.Unless they changed they use Red Hot Chicago for the hot dog and were one of the very first to use the Red Hot Chicago brand when Scott Ladany branched out with the Red Hot Chicago brand.

I have not had a hot dog at Budacki's, just italian beef. I'm not really a fan. They have standard food service fries. I seem to be very sensitive to the quality of the oil they're fried in. In my opinion, they were not good.

Sadly DDA has closed at their old location. :(

But... There is reason to rejoice! They are planning to reopen on North Ave just west of The Onion Roll.

I was by there last week and the paper is off the windows. Might be soon?

Does this place serve natural casing dogs?

They did when they were at the harlem/armitage hot dog shack.Red Hot Chicago has a pretty good natural casing dog.Their jumbo skinless red hot are available at Aldi;4pk for $3.99 is surprisingly good for a Jumbo dog.Much better than any Jumbo Vienna Beef I've tried. The Jumbo Vienna Beef were lacking spices;something the Red Hot Chicago Jumbo dog has.

They use natural casing Red Hot Chicago dogs at GNR Paradise Pup, too. Even though the burgers take center stage at PP, the dogs are no slouch, either. I’m on record as ordering both as a complete meal.

The Gold Coast Dogs location in Union Station has closed. No idea as to specifically when as I had a fifteen month gap between Union Station visits. The stall location is completely boarded off with a for lease sign.
