If so, I'm upset that I blew it...the first summer living here that I haven't made it over.

Thread bump for Solstice day. I stopped by during the cooler weather and shorter lines on Friday and saw that mango was available. The mango was ripe and flavorful.

I second this. Ive dropped by 3 or 4 times so far this summer...and this Saturday I too found Mango. Its the first-ever time (IIRC) that I personally have *ever* seen Mango at Mario's! Tho they claimed they had it in recent summers for a short time..

I thought it was *very* good, actually - was very happy with it. (The girl behind the counter told me, on asking, that Mango and Pomegranate were her personal favorites at the moment, FWIW - I was glad for her recommendation). I preferred it to my taste of Watermelon last weekend..

    Hi,

I recall Jazzfood made it a personal mission to influence them to add pomegranate and mango.

I am also partial to tutti fruitti with the hopes of picking out really chilled grape.

Pretty much I go with whatever has real fruit in it.

I heard a radio interview with the owner of SoupBox. He indicated the people from Mario's taught him how to make Italian ice, which he offers in summers.

A traffic alert for those traveling to the area is that today through Sunday, Taylor from Ashland to Racine is closed to vehicle traffic for Festa Italiana.

Mario's is a couple blocks east of Racine, and Taylor Street is open for vehicles east of Racine.

Peach is on point this year...or at least right now. I feel like I've had it in previous years when the peaches weren't fully ripe and you just didn't get a much of that peach sweetness. The peaches in this batch are deliciously ripe and the sweetness is offering a great balance to the lemonade.

We went Saturday and had to make a return trip last night.

And it's gone... I went on Friday and they had run out on Thursday night. :( I got a medium fruit cocktail instead, which was very good and offset the grease from my Al's beef+hot.

The pomegranate is fantastic too. The seeds work terrifically in the ice. Somewhat bitter textural counterpoint to the sweet lemony slush.

Earlier this summer, I had the Chocolate Lemonade.
Staff seemed worried I ordered it. I made them back down uttering "it was recommended" although I do not believe it was recommended by anybody here at LTHF.
I admit to being a chocoholic {as if you thought this was limited to persons with the ♀ chromosome}, but the chocolate lemonade was spot-on for flavor. I recommend it for everybody regardless of perceived gender assignment.

Last night they had honeydew, and there was mango for a day or so as well a few wks ago. Miss nectarine, they used to do it instead of peach but haven't seen it in decades.

The 10th is tentative. If the weather holds out, it's the 17th. The reason, if interested, can be found here:

Even though today is April 30, the stand is open.

This afternoon, signs were up promoting the availability of pomegranate, watermelon and cantaloupe flavors.

We were there last Saturday night. I always say I am going to try something different and then always get coconut. Can’t help it, I just love the coconut. My daughter got the blue raspberry which is consistent with her recent choice of blue moon ice cream at The Chocolate Shoppe. Six-year-old taste.
We make this trek at least annually. Seems like every time we go there is a cop car with officers enjoying some ice and a cross-section of Chicagoans from a range of neighborhoods. Such a special place.

They seem to have added honeydew as a permanent flavor. It was on a small sign when I first tried it about 2 weeks ago. Then when I was there on Tuesday it was on the full lemonade flavor list.

A half watermelon-half honeydew was damn good. Almost equivalent to my prior standby half watermelon-half cantaloupe. God I love Mario's when it's hot out. Especially after a run or workout when it becomes refreshment on steroids.

Agreed. I try to go when it's at least 85 or higher out. Extra good at night, too. Perfect after an Italian beef from across the street...clears all that grease out of your mouth.

Yes, Ramsey Lewis was really, really good at the Jazz Festival tonight. I may have counted 24 thunderclaps, but it did not rain on us.
Ramsey's performance of "The 'In' Crowd" included snippets from "Don't You Worry 'bout A Thing", and "Baby, What You Want Me To Do". :D
The other "fun" songs he played, backed by the Urban Knights, were "Betcha' By Golly Wow", "A Hard Day's Night", and "Living For The City".
The encore (but they skipped the routine of going off stage and rebounding) was "Sun Goddess", which a certain Chicago FM radio station, despite picking the year 1975 out of the stack for its "Saturday Morning Flashback" program earlier today, completely blew playing it. (It played the Earth, Wind, & Fire song which did not have Ramsey on it.)

Sign posted on the stand said that the last day of the season is today, Sunday 9/9. Peach was available when I was there around 5p.

Quite a few bees were flying around the stand when people were placing and waiting for their orders.
